FROWN LINE TREATMENT

At Pretty Woman Cosmetic Clinic®  we offer an effective frown line treatment using a combination of Botox and Dermal filler injections. The frown line is also known as the ‘glabella’.
Frown lines are vertical lines between and above your eye brow that are the result from frowning and ageing skin. Similar to forehead lines, as we age these frown lines become more prominent.
Treatment of frown lines can be beneficial to patients who are suffering the negative social effects of their frowning, or who would simply like to reverse the effects of aging. Persistent or deep frown lines often may cause individuals to look angry, stressed, tired, intense or concerned. Elimination of frown lines leads to a more rested, approachable and fresh appearance.

What are treatment options?

Botox  (Botulinum toxin) : Botox can help reduce the movement of frown muscles hence the frown line that you see when you try to frown is removed or reduced. It can also prevent the lines becoming deeper
Dermal filler : Dermal fillers can be injected to plump up or fill the static frown lines. If you can see the frown line when you are not frowning, Dermal filler might be the best solution.

During your consultation, the doctor will medically examine you and advise which treatment is most suitable for you. Occasionally, the combination of both treatments are  recommended. In this case, the result is normally longer lasting as both treatments help support the longevity of each other.

What is Botox ?

Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It relaxes the muscle by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles.
The cosmetic effect of Botox was first documented as early as 1989 and was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now regularly used by many, both male and female, as it is less intrusive and less artificial in appearance than traditional form of treament such as plastic surgery.

What is a dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are materials that are frequently used to correct scarring, line, fold and other depressions in the skin. They are a kind of soft tissue designed to be injected into the skin for purposes of improving the appearance. Generally, they are made of several types of materials of synthetic, man-made and natural categories, and they have been developed into various standards depending on the level of usage.

Which type of dermal filler are used in the treatment?

The most common dermal filler used is a temporary filler called Hyaluronic acid ( such as Restylane and Juvederm).
Hyaluronic acid is one of nature’s most versatile and fascinating substances. It is found throughout the body as well as in most other living organisms. It has many functions, from giving the skin elasticity and providing our skin with volume to giving it a youthful appearance. Restylane and Juvederm are sterile gels consisting of non-animal, cross-linked, hyaluronic acid (HA) and are produced in a laboratory. They contain no human or animal DNA and have the best safety profile of all the fillers currently on the market as it is the only type of filler that is reversible. These products are FDA approved for use in the nasolabial fold and are used “off-label” in other areas.

What does the dermal filler injection involve?

Prior the treatment : Topical anaesthetic will be applied for 15-30 minutes prior the treatment to make the area numb.
The procedure : Dermal filler is injected at precise locations into your skin. The doctor will then massage to smooth the product. During the procedure, you are fully awake. You will be given a mirror to hold to enable you to see the results as the doctor completes the treatment.
Post treatment :  You should avoid touching or applying make up on the treated area for 6 hours in order to prevent infection. Specific post treatment instructions will be given to you on the day of your treatment by our Clinic Coordinator.
The results are immediate and last from 6-12 months. As the results are relatively temporary, adjustments can be made as your face changes over time and you will always retain a natural look.

What is the treatment process of Botox?

Prior to the treatment : A full medical consultation will be completed to confirm your suitability for the treatment .The doctor may examine your ability to move certain muscles to determine location, size and use of the muscles that create your wrinkles. The desired results will then be discussed and a treatment plan will be created.
The treatment : No anaesthesia is required. However, the doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Several small injections of Botox will be administered directly into the muscles that cause the visible lines and wrinkles. The treatment will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
After treatment : Avoid touching, massaging or apply cosmetics or creams to the area for 6 hours. This will reduce risk of infection. All aftercare instructions will be discussed with you before the treatment by our Clinic Coordinator. The results are temporary, lasting around 4-6 months.

Dermal filler : After the treatment(s) some common injection-related reactions might occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within 2 to 10 days. Mild bruising or a slight blush might appear at the injection site immediately following treatment and may last for 2-10 days.
If you’ve previously had cold sores around the mouth (facial herpes simplex) , the treatment might provoke an outbreak. Be sure you have a supply of the oral tablets (prescription) Valtrex, Famvir or acyclovir or topical medication such as Zovirax.
